Some people who disagree with me try to destroy my credibility rather debate with me their ideas and my ideas. Pushing me off as a member of the Christian lunatic fringe, someone who is better avoided than enter into a discussion with is an effective way of disposing of people who have legitimate concerns about religion in our country. But it is not fair to me or to the people who might hear me.
I don’t like displaying my credentials in public, but it is the only way to diffuse the prejudicial arguments of those who differ with me. I have a bachelor’s degree from a Catholic university graduating with a minor in Scholastic Philosophy. I write a column for the e-magazine CatholicStand.com. Every month I offer them a 2000 word essay on anything Catholic. I got burned with one of my first essays when I wrote what I thought was a nice essay on a new book promoting evolution of man. I was shocked by the negative comments my essay got. My choices were to quit in disgrace or to come back swinging.
In the essays below I discuss my problems with evolution. This is followed by essays that discuss subjects that many Catholics are uneasy with. You will also find essays strongly encouraging my readers to live wholesome lives faithful to our Lord.
Whatever you think of me, I hope you enjoy my essays.
The theory of evolution comes from Charles Darwin who argued that the origin of all animals, including human beings, is due to slow mutations occurring spontaneously throughout history...
My first attempt to argue against evolution was largely unsuccessful because I tried to debate the veracity of God’s revelation in the arena of anthropology and microbiology...
My acceptance of the truths of Genesis as authentic, even though Genesis is presented in a simplistic fable-like manner, emboldened me to claim that man was able to converse with God as soon as God created man ...
A long time ago, when scientists first began to understand nature, they classified all living things into two basic kingdoms: plant and animal. I don’t know what they were thinking: humans have always presumed that there are spiritual beings in existence, ...
But creation as revealed by God has an even broader application. I would like to describe the whole view of spiritual creation and physical evolution. Maybe that would make it easier for you to decide which seems most correct to you...
Those who control our culture no longer believe God’s revelation or respect Church authority to teach what God revealed, so I am just going to go out on a limb and venture my own private opinion of biblical creation and the scientific evidence the world offers us in apparent contradiction of it ...
There are a number of ideas Catholics seldom talk about, like are there intelligent physical beings on other planets, could the devils present themselves as extraterrestrial aliens, is the aspirations of aboriginal peoples of a happy hunting ground valid for them, since so many of them were ruined by the conquering Europeans?
I took advantage of my working under an editor well versed in the Catholic Faith to submit articles that presumed some of the above ideas are valid. It was smart of me to do that because he corrected any misconceptions of the faith in my mind. But I was surprised that I made very few invalid assumptions.
The following links are for submissions to Catholic Stand of some of my wilder speculations (but already corrected by an expert). I hope you enjoy these articles.
In my youth, I wasted much of my time on science fiction, flying saucers, and aliens. I finally lost interest in those subjects, but today I see many nations are now exploring space. They’re expending much effort and money trying to establish contact with alien civilizations on other planets.
Vanity of vanities! . . . All is vanity. What does a man gain by the toil at which he toils under the sun? . . . I have seen everything that is done under the sun; and behold, all is vanity and a striving after wind.
I‘m getting on in life, and I think it’s finally time to plan ahead and speculate on what heaven is like. All I was told about heaven as a child was that I’ll have wings, wear a gown, play a harp, and sing to God all day long which is kind of childish and isn’t going to satisfy me now. I want to know more.
One never learns what evil is promoted in our country until one is finally confronted with it. Here is the current law for education of grade school children in California concerning sexual education. California wants to teach children how to avoid HIV, teach “healthy attitudes” toward sexual orientation, and to understand sex as a normal part of human development.
The USS Gerald R. Ford is the largest aircraft carrier in the world. Its two nuclear engines turning four props can move the carrier at an incredible 40 miles per hour. The ship can carry 90 aircraft, 60 of which are on the flight deck.
I love art, especially landscapes and portraits of beautiful animals. And I like detail when the artist spends time to place minute details into his paintings. But as spectacular and beautiful as paintings are, they are inert, just dead images painted on a lifeless canvas. Leaves don’t wave in the breeze, eyes do not shift, animals do not move on a canvas.
Many people argue that God is not going to send those who refuse to love Him and obey Him to everlasting hell like He has warned since the beginning. I don’t know why these unbelievers are so adamant in their convictions. Is God untruthful?
